Data Security Incident

The Norman Regional Health Foundation (NRHF) was recently notified by Blackbaud that they had been the victim of a ransomware attack. Blackbaud is one of the world’s largest providers of customer relationship management systems for not-for-profit organizations, and they are one of our service providers.

NRHF takes the protection and proper use of donor information very seriously.

What Happened: Blackbaud discovered and stopped a ransomware attack, which occurred between February 7-May 20, 2020. After discovering the attack, Blackbaud’s Cyber Security team ultimately expelled the cybercriminal from their system. Prior to being locked out, the cybercriminal was able to remove a copy of a subset of data from some clients, including NRHF.

What Information Was Involved: Blackbaud determined the file removed may have contained name, address, spouse, phone numbers, email addresses, and giving history with NRHF, such as donation dates and amounts. It is important to note NRHF does not maintain records of credit card account numbers nor bank account information. Blackbaud has no reason to believe any data went beyond the cybercriminal, was or will be misused, or will be disseminated or otherwise made available publicly.

What We Are Doing: Ensuring the safety of our constituents’ data is of the utmost importance to us. As part of Blackbaud’s ongoing efforts to help prevent something like this from happening in the future, they have already implemented several changes which will protect your data from any subsequent incidents.

What You Can Do: As a best practice, we recommend you remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to the proper law enforcement authorities.
